How We Rate Videos and Books: We have watched over 220 soccer coaching videos (DVD's and tapes) and read over 70 soccer coaching books. Unfortunately, most are not good, many are a complete waste of time and money, and some are actually counterproductive. We only sell videos and books that we truly believe are the best and worth buying, and that we can give 4 or 5 star ratings (on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best). Our ratings consider the quality, length and value of an item, how it compares to other similar DVD’s, and how well it meets the needs of the targeted audience. We reject about 90% of the videos we watch.
Category: Basic,
intermediate and advanced soccer moves for players ages 10 and older. 20 moves
are demonstrated. You should also check out "Play Like Champions" (in-depth
demonstrations), "Gol! (Brazilian Footwork
Training and "Super Soccer
Skills" (for beginners and younger players), which are also "moves" DVD's.
Combo Deals: We
offer this DVD as part of a special Combo deal with
"Play Like Champions" and "Gol! (Brazilian Footwork
Training)" Together they make a great gift for any player or coach who wants
to learn soccer moves….they are the best 3 "moves" DVD's available and
together provide plenty of moves to choose from.
Review: This is the
best concise video available for teaching both basic, intermediate and advanced
soccer moves. In 30 minutes it demonstrates 20 soccer moves (including 7
basic moves and concepts) and is very efficient and well done. This video gives
players and coaches the information needed to learn and teach those moves. The
tips are excellent and it shows the moves in clips from professional games and
then demonstrated by youth players. It starts with tips and then shows video of
most of the moves from professional games in real speed and slow motion, and
then shows the move demonstrated by youth players (female and male players) from
several angles, in slow motion and with and without a defender. The commentary
is excellent. A player or coach who wants to learn soccer moves can do so from
this video. However, we recommend the "Super Soccer Skills" video for beginning
players and for players younger than age 10. This video is most useful to
intermediate, advanced or motivated players, or for coaches who want to learn
the major moves so they can teach them or at least recognize them. We offer this
DVD as part of a Combo deal with "Play Like Champions", and together they make a
great gift for any player or coach who wants to learn soccer moves….they are the
best 2 "Moves" DVD's available and together provide plenty of moves to choose
from and excellent demonstrations. Keep in mind that there is no one "best"
move. Rec coaches should teach the basic moves and Travel Team coaches should
teach the basic moves and also the intermediate or advanced moves that they
believe are important…a player should practice on his own the intermediate
or advanced moves that he or she likes best and that work best for him or her.

User Tips: The DVD has
a Menu that makes it easy to switch from one Move to another and to find the
different moves on the DVD. It also has Dolby Digital Stereo, Interactive Menus
and Scene Selection. NOTE: Some moves are much more important than others.
Below, we've noted the moves that are basic and most important to learn. We
suggest Rec coaches emphasize those and that Travel Team coaches also teach the
intermediate or advanced moves they believe are important. Also, we've noted the
moves that will be difficult for typical players to learn.
Contents:
| Minute |
Topic |
| 00:00 |
Introduction |
| 1:20 |
Tips for success (how to make the moves part of your "muscle
memory") |
| 2:00 |
Proper progression for learning the moves (this is
excellent!!) |
| 3:27 |
"Basic Scissors" move (An intermediate move that's good for practicing
footwork, but not used very much in youth games because it's difficult to do
successfully under pressure. Nonetheless, it's an important move for travel
players to learn). |
| 4:45 |
"Reverse Scissors" (this is difficult) |
| 5:59 |
"Double Scissors" (this is difficult) |
| 7:05 |
The "Chop" Move (The idea of using the inside or outside of the foot to
"Chop" or Cut" the ball is a very important basic concept to teach and learn…
the move shown pushes the ball to the right using the inside of the left foot
and then the outside of the right foot). |
| 8:35 |
"Dummy Step" (This is misdirection move that is basic and important to teach and
learn) |
| 9:51 |
"Pullback" and flick behind (A Pullback, which is also called a "Drag Back",
is a basic and important way to reverse direction. The move shown is an
intermediate move that combines a Pullback with flicking the ball behind the
standing leg.) |
| 11:40 |
"Pullback" variation (This isn't a standard pullback…what's shown is similar
to the "V" move. This is a fairly easy move to learn and combines stopping the
ball and pulling it back with the bottom of the foot, and using the inside of
the same foot to change direction. It's important is to teach players to use the
bottom of the foot to control and move the ball). |
| 12:35 |
"Cruyff" turn (this is difficult) |
| 14:22 |
"Spin" turns (3 variations are demonstrated). Ignore the 1st one. The 2nd
and 3rd turns are basic and
important to teach…they are called an "outside hook turn" and an "inside
hook turn". These demonstrations are excellent. |
| 17:12 |
"Hesitation" Move. A simple hesitation (slowing down so the defender also
slows down, and then "exploding" to beat the defender) is an important and basic
concept, but the version shown is difficult and not well done. The hesitation
concept is also used in basketball and other sports. |
| 19:25 |
"Faking shots or crosses" (The idea of faking a kick is basic and important to teach. That
concept is shown here in the game clip, but we don't like the "move"
demonstrated, which is difficult and involves reversing direction. It's much
more useful fake kick a kick and then use the same foot to push the ball to the
right or left as shown in the game clip). |
| 20:45 |
"Push and Go" (This is a very important and basic concept. The idea is to beat
the defender by passing the ball past the defender to "open space" and then
beating the defender to the ball. This can work best if the ballhandler is
running toward the defender and the defender is standing still or moving toward
the ballhandler. Conversely, you should teach defenders "jockeying" and
"defensive containment" as described in SoccerHelp Premium so they can't be
beaten easily). |
| 21:57 |
Inside Out (This is a basic and very important move to teach and learn. It is important
to teach players to use the inside and outside of the same foot. The SoccerHelp
"Inside/Outside Figure 8 Dribbling Race" and "Dribble Across A Square" practice
games are good ways to practice this). |
| 23:20 |
Maradona (This is very difficult and rarely used). |
| 25:00 |
Double Touch (This is difficult). |
| 26:15 |
Stop and Go (This is difficult). |
| 27:02 |
Nutmeg (This is the term used when the ball is passed thru a defender's
legs. This is a basic concept
that both attackers and defenders need to be aware of). |
| 28:34 |
Blanco (Fun, but very difficult and not practical). |
| 29:05 |
Putting It all Together |
| 29:30 |
Ball Mastery Tips (This is excellent and explains how to practice the
moves) |
| 30:40 |
