Similar DVD's We Recommend: "Super Soccer Skills" is excellent for beginners of all ages. For experienced players ages 9 and older we recommend you consider Coerver Play Great Soccer 2-DVD Set, Mia Hamm Soccer Secrets, England Skills Uncovered, Soccer Success One On One Coaching (Basic and Intermediate Skills), Gol! (Brazilian Foot Skills and Ball Control Training Program)
How We Rate Videos and Books: We have watched over 220 soccer coaching videos (DVD's and tapes) and read over 70 soccer coaching books. Unfortunately, most are not good, many are a complete waste of time and money, and some are actually counterproductive. We only sell videos and books that we truly believe are the best and worth buying, and that we can give 4 or 5 star ratings (on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best). Our ratings consider the quality, length and value of an item, how it compares to other similar DVD's, and how well it meets the needs of the targeted audience. We reject about 90% of the videos we watch.
Category: Soccer
skills; basic soccer moves, feints and footwork.
Why it is important:
Good footwork is important for all players.
Summary and who it is suitable for: This is the best video we've seen for teaching footwork and
soccer moves to beginning players, and we've watched over 200 soccer coaching
tapes and DVD's. It is suitable for coaches and beginning to intermediate players ages 7 and older, however, for experienced players ages 9 and older we recommend you consider Coerver Play Great Soccer 2-DVD Set, Mia Hamm Soccer Secrets, England Skills Uncovered, Soccer Success One On One Coaching (Basic and Intermediate Skills), and Gol! (Brazilian Foot Skills and Ball Control Training Program). This video is unique in that it is designed so a
player can watch it at home on the television while practicing the footwork and
moves in a small square (about 3 steps wide) outlined by 4 socks. (Don't worry,
it is safe to do this in the house). It is like having your own personal coach
or trainer. For typical players and Recreational coaches, this video is much
better than the Coerver tapes. The difference is that a typical player (even a
beginner) or a beginning coach can watch this video and actually learn from it,
instead of just getting confused and overwhelmed. We aren't aware of any other
video or DVD that does this so well or is even close. Eurosport was quoted as
saying "Every young player should have this video!" We agree.
Review: This video is
unique in that it is designed so a player can watch it at home on the television
while practicing the footwork and moves in a small square (about 3 steps wide)
outlined by 4 socks. (Don't worry, it is safe to do this in the house). Slow
motion and stop action are used so the viewer can clearly follow along. The
Moves are also shown on the soccer field at "game speed" against a defender.
Each footwork move is clearly shown in close-ups from different angles, with
young players (about age 8 or 9) learning as he or she is taught by the "coach".
It is just like you are there. At the end of each section, there is a "challenge
timed race" that allows the viewer to practice the moves against the clock. This
is good because it simulates "pressure".
Very fun and positive. Excellent quality and very clear narration. This is a
great way for beginning coaches to learn how to teach basic footwork, such as
use of the inside and outside of the foot, and a pullback, and soccer moves. For
typical players and Recreational coaches, this video is much better than the
Coerver tapes. Dan Metcalfe is an outstanding instructor and the quality of this
video makes it an exceptional value. This is the best video we've seen for
teaching footwork and soccer moves to young players, and we've watched over 150
soccer coaching tapes and DVD's. It is like having your own personal coach or
trainer.
