Hi SoccerHelp,

Currently I am coaching a girls U12 and U14 team.

I subscribed to SoccerHelp Premium but I was overwhelmed with information.

I would like to see if I can get some suggestions on where to start and where to navigate on the site. I would like to get familiar with conditioning, the practice games, formation and teaching formations, but I'm not sure where to start first.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Al,

Thanks for being a Member.

1. First, take a look at the Premium Home Page. It is organized by "Mega" links at the top and an alphabetical list of links to specific subjects. Spend about 5 minutes and you will understand it and find it easy to use.

2. As you know, our soccer drills are Practice Games that teach players to play fast while under pressure. Click the link at the top right that says "Practice Games (Drills)" or the link on the alphabetical list. When you get to the Practice Games page you will see that the games are by age. Click "U12". Beside some of the Games it says "Definitely Play This". There are 4 Practice Games that U8 and older teams should definitely play a lot.

- Dribble Across a Square - Twice with the square 10 steps wide (to practice Control Dribbling) and twice with it 17 steps wide (teaches to recognize Open Space and Breakaway into it - Speed Dribbling). Play as a Warm-Up to start every practice. You will be amazed.

- Dribble Around Cone & Pass Relay Race - Use it to teach One-Touch and Aggressive Receiving - Play this a lot

- Shoulder Tackle & Strength on the Ball - This will help a LOT

- Win the 50/50 Ball or be the First Defender 1v1 Attacking and Defending - This will help a lot.

3. For formations, go to Formations Navigation Page (http://www.soccerhelp.com/premium/Formations_Index.shtml ) - you can click Formations in the top Green Bar. Read about the Formations that fit your situation (11v11, 9v9, etc)

4. Read Formation Selection and Assigning Positions Tips For Rec Coaches, and Where To Hide Timid and Weak Players at http://www.soccerhelp.com/premium/Formation_Selection_And_Assigning_Positions.shtml

5. Read Assigning Positions Rules at http://www.soccerhelp.com/premium/Assigning_Positions_Rules.shtml

6. Teach Coaching Rule # 3 - it takes about 10 minutes and is worth 2 goals per game, it is # 2 at http://www.soccerhelp.com/premium/Quick_Team_Improvement.shtml

7. About conditioning - If you use our Practice Games, they will condition your players because all your players will be active. This conditioning is better than running laps because it is "game realistic". Play the games like Dribble Across a Square and Dribble Around Cone & Pass Relay Race and you will see.

This will get you started. Then just go to the subjects you need help with.

Please let me know how you do and what helps the most.
